Coquelicot : a culinary stop in Montmartre

June 22, 2011
Coquelicot Abbesses

Every visit to Montmartre should start on Place des Abbesses (accessible with metro line #12, Abbesses station) with a culinary stop at Coquelicot, a dollhouse-style bakery selling delicious cakes, breads and candies. Some of Coquelicot’s must tries include the “Tigré” or the bunch of “chouquettes”. If you prefer savory treats then the Picoletta is definitely for you! And if you have some time before heading to the Sacré-Coeur, why not have your breakfast there? The terrace is often overcrowded but do not hesitate to go to the first floor. The decoration features a cosy dining-room with antiques hanging on the walls or laying on shelves. Everything there is made to make you feel at home, or at your grandmother’s place so don’t be surprised if your hot chocolate is served in a huge porcelain bowl. When exiting Coquelicot, you may run into a tiny and colorful truck that seems straight out of a comic book. Relax, you are not dreaming, it is just the Coquelicot truck delivering bread to the surrounding restaurants.
